Good magazine for light reading on July 01, 2010 by vanillabean from Florida

  • Pros: Intertwine light subjects with some serious articles, good beauty and health tips, balanced used of models
  • Cons: Unrealistic beauty guides with expensive products and clothing, a lot of recycled material from year to year

I read Glamour magazine when I work out, since it's a light read and has an occasional serious article. Good beauty features, and I believe they try hard to appeal to the young, working woman. I do not like most of their fashion as in one article they suggest shoes for $500 and then in another article they talk about budgeting! Their fashion is very unrealistic especially in today's economy.

  • Pros: Good variety of articles, not so sex focused as Cosmo, good mix of style and information
  • Cons: Little ad heavy, sometimes some very high prices listed

Glamour magazine is a nice option in the Cosmo/Instyle/Elle genre of magazines. It has a good balance of informative articles vs style, does a nice job of not being overly sex focused (but does touch on relevant or interesting topics in that category, just doesn't overdo it), interviews a nice variety of stars/women making a difference.
