The ad write up on Mental Floss sounded great but I was slightly skeptical. Also, considering how much information is on the Internet I wondered if this would just be repetitious. However, there is information in Mental Floss that I would definitely never have found on my own, simply because I would not have known it was out there to be found. The staff does the work for you- finding articles of interest and snippets of information that are useful and stimulating or just entertaining!

Mental Floss is a great magazine! I subscribed for a year but alas the number of subscriptions I receive has overwhelmed me. My only hope is that magazines I enjoy such as this, eventually catch up with the rest of the world and become available online. It would really be great if I could download it onto my electronic reader.

I don't really agree with the description that it "makes learning simple." That's not really the point of the magazine. It is full of anecdotal stories and random fun information, but not necessarily useful information (okay I suppose knowing that penguins make great fuel sources could be useful for someone...). This is by far my favorite magaine and the only one I read cover to cover. The writers have great senses of humor so while the stories are full of information and random facts they are often presented with wit and in an entertaining manner. This magazine is for the nerd and braniac in all of us.
ABOUT MENTAL FLOSS
Mental Floss was launched in June of 2001 by William E. Pearson and Mangesh Hattikudur. Pearson and Hattikudur were students at Duke University when they first published the magazine. Regular columns include “Scatter Brained,” “Right Brain,” “Left Brain” and “Spinning the Globe.” One past cover story was titled “What’s the Difference” and gave quick tricks for spotting real money from counterfeit, bluegrass from country, violins from fiddles and many more. Also found in each issue is a quiz on random facts and trivia. Read great articles on art, travel, historical figures and places, culture, entertainment and much more.
